first post to this blog. still setting stuff up behind the scenes. next post will probably be when I get some CSS set up. will not be typing raw HTML like some caveman anymore either, I'd like to switch to markdown.

addendum: I didn't type it all by hand, but made some emacs skeletons in the end.
