A GAMBLER’S ANATOMY by Jonathan Lethem—a weird and haunting story about a professional backgammon player who has a face transplant. 5/5 stars
PAGEBOY by Elliot Page—Poetic, dark, musing, introspective. Coming of age trans in Canada and in show biz. Read by the author. 5/5 stars
HALF EMPTY by David Rakoff—it’s really damn funny. Read by the author. 5/5 stars
THINKING, FAST AND SLOW by Daniel Kahneman—nothing exceptional about the narration, just a really interesting book. 5/5 stars
THE SENTENCE by Louise Erdrich—a native american bookstore ghost story about racial tensions in america. 5/5 stars
BASED ON A TRUE STORY: A MEMOIR by Norm Macdonald—Norm is one of the funniest people who ever lived, and master of the shaggy dog joke. Of which there are several in this book. This memoir is an extended joke on the genre in general. Read by the author. 5/5 stars
THE EYES AND THE IMPOSSIBLE by Dave Eggers—Fairy tale magical. Eggers’s words read by Ethan Hawke are charming and hilarious and endearing. 5/5 stars
DEBT: THE FIRST 5,000 YEARS by David Graeber—nothing exceptional about the narration, just a really interesting book. 5/5 stars
DUNE by Frank Herbert—needs no introduction. On this list because of multiple narrators and voice actors and portions of cinematic recordings complete with musical scoring. one of the best audio productions i’ve ever read. 5/5 stars
THE STARLESS SEA by Erin Morgenstern—a world of secret magic. hauntingly good. also i love it when there are multiple narrators. 5/5 stars
NEIL PATRICK HARRIS: CHOOSE YOUR OWN AUTOBIOGRAPHY by Neil Patrick Harris—Cute, funny, and you get to listen to NPH. Read by the author. 5/5 stars
WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE by Shirley Jackson—the timeless classic. haunting, mysterious, darkly humorous. 5/5 stars
A CURIOUS MIND by Brian Grazer—grazer’s notion of “curiosity conversations” has had a huge impact on me personally. Neat to hear stories about all the different people he has met. Probably helps if you’re one of the most famous movie producers in the world. 5/5 stars
SURE, I’LL JOIN YOUR CULT by Maria Bamford—Maria is A) hilarious, and B) very mentally ill. Read by the author. 5/5 stars
