And it was fun! I had not been cross country skiing in probably 4-5 years or so? But today I went! It was really hard. But I only fell on my butt like two times! I guess I also technically caused one other guy to crash, but I swear it was basically his fault!!!
I think I first tried skate skiing in 2019 or 2020, when I got the skis (thanks mom and dad). I never took a skate skiing course. There were no courses the first winter I tried skate skiing, due to COVID-19. I remember it was way harder the first winter than now, I fell down like every 100 metres! It's much better now. It would be cool to do a course to learn it properly, though!
First, I was afraid I completely forgot how this worked. But I kinda remembered!
The track was a neat lap which lead through a pretty & peaceful forest.
The lap had many small hills. Going downhill was FUN! But climbing uphill was HARD!
I must have looked ridiculous with my lack of technique and snail-pace, but I still smiled because it was fun! I believe it is important to allow myself being a dork, and to embrace the awkwardness, embarrassment, and discomfort.
In cognitive behavioural therapy, I learned avoidance is best to be avoided. It is important not to avoid the embarrassing and anxiety-inducing. Otherwise the anxiety only gets worse.
To learn, I have to be willing to be bad and make mistakes, to make myself vulnerable by looking maybe silly, or at least incompetent. I might even annoy other people in the process, but that's okay!
My posture, coordination, and strength are lacking. If I could ski more regularly, it could get better :)
My mom drove me to the tracks (thanks mom!), but I walked back alone. I put the ski-boots into my backpack, and carried the skis and the poles in my hands. Luckily not very heavy!
The walk back home was peaceful and secluded!
It lead me through a forest.
My hands were freezing even though I was wearing gloves!
It was a nice day! I'm thankful for today, and I'm glad it snowed and the tracks were prepared so well :) ∎
