~music~

my music taste is a big ol bottle of jellybeans!!!!!!!

the earliest thing that feels like it was actually my music taste was emo bands like motionless in white, falling in reverse, fallout boy, some twenty one pilots, etc... Really my access to music was very limited back then. The way I would be exposed to music was either car or bus radios (which was mostly country music, only sometimes pop... I really remember Payphone and Somebody That I Used To Know the most from music from that era.) But I was close with some people that were more into emo/scene stuff and music, and they would let me listen with them sometimes. It was really cool and I liked the music. I was definitely the most poser out of any of them in middle school though, I would listen but I didn't know anything about the music, couldn't get the wardrobe... I'd google music references on the fly during kik convos with my friends and I wanted to go to Warped Tour SOOOOO bad.

I didn't really have a favorite band or favorite music for a while though. Didn't have enough agency over listening to music to really develop it the way I wanted to, and I felt weird about it :( I got really into "phan" music, actually, if that can be called a genre. Basically everything played at TATINOF before the show started. I LOVED My Chemical Romance sooooooooo much. Got G noted a lot, jammed out to Toxic, to Muse, etc....

Going into high school I was impressionable as hell. I also played music in marching band and concert/symphonic band so I would really focus on that music for music in my life. But I was talking with someone at some point at like, lunch or something in band, and they brought up that they had gotten autoreccommended some song called Dream Sweet in Sea Major or something from a band whose name was in japanese but who sang in english. They reccomended the song to me and I fell soooooooo in love with the song. I listened to the entire album, I listened to the rest of the songs from those musical artists... It was really my watershed moment where I discovered my taste in music for real. Tally Hall is my taste in music in a major way. It's beautiful.

So I listened to a lot of them, started listening to other stuff like more twenty one pilots, I think later on I discovered Steam Powered Giraffe. I LOVE steam powered giraffe. Their music is just as equally and totally my taste in music as Tally Hall. I also listened to like, Mr. B, bo.en, That Handsome Devil. Really loved having spotify and a phone and access to music honestly. In the summer of 2019 I got heavy into Yung Gravy and it was Great. That was my summer vibe and I loved it. Still big jammin music for me!!!!

Something that happened right as 2020 started was my sweet best friend roommate got broken up with and it was terrible. I was taking care of him and loving on him a lot but also like, when I'd play music out loud usually some sort of love song would come on, and it was awkward I thought :( Didn't want to upset him. So I started getting into some other music.

I chose Eminem to get into. At least he doesn't have like, actual love songs. I started playing eminem all the time. I unironically started liking it. I would listen to a LOT of eminem and my best friend hateddddddd ittttttt. He hated it worse than he woulda hated any love songs. It was hilarious but also definitely like, EMINEM????? We got sent home for covid soon after and he got his escape.

That year Spotify told me I was in the top 0.5% of Eminem listeners.
