summer 2018
working 40 hours of week has taken a toll on my participation in this community––for that i am sorry--i love tilde.town, but most especially i love being around all of you, learning about your lives and what makes you inspired and happy
i've been mostly laying low because of work but i am making prints & it's been rly good for my soul
these two prints are from a new series entitled "Tristezas/Saudades"
the series deals with (among other things) depression, catholicism, being gay, loss, irony, and pop music from the hispanophone and the lusophone
pls let me know if you want a print by emailing me at joe@daelis.com
there's also an Apple Music & a Spotify playlist if you wanna listen to sad mexican/portuguese songs together
I recently just came back from South Texas and it was the vacation that I needed––but I also fell in love with someone & he left so I just got depressed again
I tried to commit suicide in late June & it suuuuucked
The crazy thing was the day after I sat at the piano and composed a 24-minute piano piece entitled "Meeting Christ in a Beanfield" and I think it's beautiful and cathartic
i turn 34 in a month & i'm wondering what middle age will look like––i'm nothing like what i wanted to be growing up & i am pretty sure i am a failure as a human being
the only upside to this is that i've been published in a major magazine, the believer, for a story on selena quintanilla-pérez
this will be out july 30 at newsstands everywhere and online too. i'll make sure to share the link with you when I get it.
thank you for being here for me
