Ramin Honary: About Me
Currently working as a software engineer, in product development.
This is my personal blog, so I mostly rant, or else talk about my non-work-related projects. You can expect to see me talk alot about:
Personal projects
Schemacs: since about the year 2022 I have been publicly working on an implementation of the written in the Scheme programming language, making it as portable as possible by ahdering as best I can to the R7RS-Small language standard. I also hope to make it into a full Scheme-language application platform compatible with GNU Emacs.
The Lispy-Gopher-Climate podcast: I am a frequent contributor to this weekly, hour-long podcast about the Lisp family of programming languages, the Gopher protocol, and the climate change disaster. The podcast is hosted by the renowned New Zeland-based computer hacker known as Screwlisp (a.k.a. "Screwtape"). And we are also frequently graced with the presence of climate justice activist Kent M. Pitman, who is probably better known as one of the many co-authors of the Common Lisp programming language specification, especially the Error Conditions System.
Programming Languages and Software
the Haskell programming language
the Emacs app platform
the GNU/Linux operating system (especially Linux Mint, and GuixOS)
The static pages for this blog were written by hand using ordinary Emacs HTML authoring tools. I actually feel more comfortable writing HTML than I do writing Markdown or Org-Mode "Ord-Down". When I was a child, I used to write HTML pages for myself, friends, and family using SimpleText on Mac OS 7.5.
Classic computers
- Apple IIc
- Apple IIe
- Apple IIgs
- Macintosh II (whole series, but especially the IIsi)
- Macintosh Performa 630CD (last of the Macs using the Motorola 68000 ISA)
Politics and Philosophy
I have political opinions, of course, but I am not knowledgible enough to talk about any such thing here. Instead, I recommend you follow the work of some of my personal favorite authors, activists, and philosophers, they understand and explain these things better than I ever could:
- Cory Doctorow
- Edward Snowden
- Slavoj Žižek
- Richard M. Stallman
- Noam Chomsky (most of his writing is still relevant, in spite of his transgressions).
Favorite Music
- Nirvana (Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, Lori Goldston, Pat Smear, Chad Channing)
- Gorillaz (Damien Albarn, Jamie Hewlett)
- KMFDM (En Esch, Günter Schulz, Raymond Watts, Rudolph Naomi)
- Most rock music from the 70s, especially Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Van Halen

How to contact me:
@ramin_hal9001@fe.disroot.org: I hang out on Mastodon almost every day.
ramin.honary@gmail.com — I check this address weekly, it is the best way to send me questions, comments, corrections, or requests.
ramin_hal9001@tilde.town — this e-mail address is only accessible from within an SSH login to the tilde.town server. If you are a member, you can send me a message, or find me on the internal IRC. But I tend not check this address more than once a month.
