Won't Happen in Japan

JAL and ANA weigh in on the United “Fuselage Fight Club” saga.
In today’s Japan Times, it seems ANA and JAL, the big air carriers here in Japan, have weighed in to say: “it won’t happen here”. That is to say, they would not forcibly drag someone from one of their flights.
That’s probably right, I believe. Japan is famously orderly. In the almost 30 years I’ve been here, I really haven’t seen much violence, except for a couple of incidences. Most people queue and listen to requests without much complaint (at least in Tokyo and Yokohama; not sure about Osaka though). Well, Japan’s got half the population of the US, crammed into an area the size of the US State of Montana, so there’s that. You kind of have to be orderly and polite in that kind of situation.
United’s CEO finally gave an actual apology, too. They should have led with the one linked below, instead of that initial tone-deaf, steaming pile of corporate-speak non-apology shite. π©
