//Hunt The Wumpus Long ago, deep in long lost caverns, a dark sorcerer practiced black magic. It is said that they created deadly monsters, which had since been named by the few survivors of those who had been unfortunate enough to encounter them. One of these, the least deadly by far because of its life far from the ancient magical forces, was the Wumpus. Though it was the least deadly, it had easily outsmarted many inexperienced hunters in its maze of cavern chambers. James was the most recent of monster hunters to take the challenge. No one had ever so much as harmed the Wumpus before, let alone killed it, so he had no justification for why he thought he could. But he was trying anyway. As he climbed down to the ladder, he noticed that it was much warmer here. He knew he had to keep a map of this place so he could avoid the dangers of the caverns and find his way out again, so he wrote on one of his few sheets of paper: ‘I have entered a warm chamber’. He saw the passage ways to various chambers; cold, overgrown, small and cavernous. He wrote them down too and eventually picked the small one and wrote ‘I have entered a small chamber’, along with the descriptions of the adjacent chambers. He was about to pick one when he felt a breeze. Knowing that another effect of the sorcerer’s work was filling the caves with bottomless pits, he decided to go back to the warm chamber and choose a new route. As he walked, he wrote ‘I feel a breeze.’ Back at the start, he wrote the same details as usual, then followed the tunnel to the overgrown chamber. Again, he felt a breeze, but looking down the tunnels to the adjacent chambers, he could see only one that was the same; the clean chamber. He noted on his paper that the pit had to be in the clean chamber and continued. This time, he had the choices of muddy, clean, wide and mucky chambers. Choosing the most pleasant looking one that did not have a pit in it, he walked through the tunnel to the wide chamber and saw an awful sight in front of him. There were bloodstains on the walls. He knew the Wumpus must be in an adjacent chambers now, so again, after the room description, he wrote what was in the room. ‘There is blood on the walls’, then heard a noise coming from another cavern, a flapping noise of bats. He wrote ‘I hear flapping nearby.’ Knowing now that he only had a one in two chance of not running into something dangerous now, he saw another entrance to the muddy chamber, which he knew was safe, and followed it. Now in the muddy chamber, he saw the same sight that made him feel sick. Blood on the walls. He noted it down and looked at his list of the adjacent caverns of both rooms. The only chamber that was the same (except for the overgrown one which they both led to) was the smelly chamber. It made sense really, he doubted the Wumpus had ever washed in its life. Looking into his quiver, he realised he had come very unprepared. He had only one Wumpus-penetrating arrow. He could not allow himself to waste this shot. He knew he couldn’t miss the Wumpus if he shot into the chamber, it was far too big, but he was still worried. He didn’t want to be the next one eaten. Calming down, he aimed his shot into the smelly chamber and calmly released the string of his bow. He arrow flew away and a second later, there was an unearthly cry as it struck and drove through the Wumpus’s skin and into its organs, killing it. That would be the last time a Wumpus threatened the people around here for a long time, he thought. Heading into the chamber to see his enemy for the first time, he put his bow back where he had been carrying it before behind him, but as he did, he was not looking in front of him, and walked straight into something else, which could have almost have given him a heart attack... Of all the useless stuff I write... It's literally about a game made in 1972 (or at least the more modern version I've played made with Ruby).
