cel's deluxe oatmeal recipe
This is how I like to make oatmeal. I don't necessarily use all these ingredients every time. Use whatever you have on hand. Each ingredient is optional, although you should probably have some liquid if you are including ground seeds and spices.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rolled oats. maybe less if you are including a banana, or more if you want a bigger serving.
- about 1/2 cup hot water
- ground cinnamon (a few shakes)
- ground cloves (a shake or two)
- aniseeds, or ground anise (a sprinkle)
- salt (a few shakes)
- maple syrup, or maple sugar (1-2 tsp)
- flax seeds, ground or whole (1-2 tsp)
- a banana, or half a banana, sliced
- raisins (1 Tbsp)
- pieces of dates (1 Tbsp)
- coconut shavings (1 Tbsp)
- peanut butter (1-2 Tbsp)
- almonds (3 or 4)
- walnut pieces (1 tsp)
- wheat germ (1 tsp)
- almonds (1 tsp)
- chocolate chips (1 tsp)
- soy milk (1 Tbsp)
Instructions
- Boil water. My hot water heater has a minimum of 2 cups. Use the extra to make tea or something.
- While water is boiling, gather the ingredients.
- Put oats and the other dry ingredients in a bowl. Mix them up. I like to put the peanut butter on top last.
- When water has reached boiling, pour about 1/2 cup over the ingredients in the bowl.
- Add other liquid ingredients (maple syrup and soy milk). If adding cold soy milk, wait a minute first so that the oats can absorb more hot water first.
- Serve and eat.
- Use remaining hot water to start washing your bowl and spoon.
