Lucia’s sole interest, her driving force in life, was always accumulating more and more magic. Which is of course very illegal, making her a life-long criminal.
There was no object so cursed with dark magic that Lucia wouldn’t immediately touch it, wear it, or read it. This lead to many memorable moments such as the time our consciousness was trapped inside a book. And the time our consciousness was trapped inside a psychic mountain.
Friendship with Lucia was kind of like owning a cat. She was fiercely independent, always wandering off to do her own thing. She showed affection mostly by just choosing to continue to be near you. Colocating and cohabitating. In exchange for the generosity of her mere presence, we kept her clean and fed, and provided a place for her to sleep. And this was an arrangement that we all agreed was mutually beneficial.
One of Lucia’s most charming qualities was that if there was ever no magic to ferret out, she could reliably be found taking a nap, and delegating all of her responsibilities to her friends and underlings.
But Lucia’s real passion was setting things on fire. When it comes time to tell her life story, her biographers have but to follow the burnt scar of scorched earth she left behind to follow in her steps. And in the end, I know she died in the exact way she would have wanted to: in a blazing, fiery inferno of her own making from which there was no possible escape.
Ultimately what did her in was taking a massive barrage of cannonballs to the broadside of the ship she had wandered onto. And I take full responsibility for that. I didn’t know she was on that ship. Even though I should have guessed on account of how much it was on fire.
Lucia, I’m sorry for shooting you with cannonballs causing a massive explosion that took out two ships and part of the coastline. But it looked totally awesome and I think you would have really liked getting to see it if you weren’t already so busy dying from it.
You set all of our hearts on fire. And we will always carry that flame with us. And we will not be recovering from it any time soon.
