observations on the duck-billed wren
hi! i'm wren. i'm an autistic nonbinary trans-femme person
with anxiety. i've had a lot of interests that have faded over
time, due to hyperfixations ending or changes in my opinions,
but the things consistently fascinated me include:
- pixel art!
-
tabletop role-playing games. specifically, i'm super
interested in the intersection of mechanics and storytelling,
and how game mechanics can influence, reflect, and enhance
emergent storytelling.
-
actually, storytelling in general has always interested
me.
- webcomics!
- again, comics as a medium in general.
-
linguistics, especially the linguistic differences that
arise from different platforms on the internet. i think that
the way people talk over text chats is fascinating to begin
with, but the differences between the way people talk on
discord and irc is really cool to me.
-
old technology standards that just work. rss hasn't been
updated since 2009 but it's still supported by a ton of places
(youtube is a big one that i did not expect) and it remains an
incredible way to manage subscriptions to things you want to
keep. i can use ftp to manage files on my hacked 3ds with my
phone and it just... works. it's incredible.
- bitmap fonts! probably just fonts in general tbh.
