📘 Coffee
I am very interested in experimenting with various methods of brewing coffee. Most days I have a 10oz or 20oz cup of black coffee brewed with a Kalita Wave 185.
My equipment
- Hario Mini Slim Coffee Mill MSS-1
- Kalita Wave 185, stainless steel
- Kalita 300ml carafe
- Cloth Filter Co, Kalita Wave 185
- Aeropress
- Puck Puck
- Prismo
- Bialetti Moka Pot
- Carter Move Mug, slate grey, 16oz, splash guard
- Trung Nguyen phin
Kalita Wave 185
- Coffee: 15g, medium roast, medium-fine grind
- Water: Slightly boiling
- Add coffee
- Saturate grounds with ~90g of water
- Pour ~110g of water until 200g total, in a spiral motion
- Occasionally pour 25-50g of water, in spiral motion, until 375g total
- Wait until coffee reaches 300ml, remove and discard the rest
Aeropress
- Coffee: 15g (1 scoop, not leveled), medium roast, medium-fine grind
- Water: Slightly boiling
- Add coffee
- Start timer
- Fill to the 4 with water, or ~240g
- Stir
- Place plunger, pull up slightly
- Wait until 1:15
- Push down plunger, gently
Prismo
- Coffee: 20g, espresso roast, fine grind
- Water: 75ml, Slightly boiling
- Add coffee
- Add water
- Start timer
- Stir until 0:10
- Wait until 1:10
- Place plunger and push down quickly
Phin
- Coffee: 15g, medium ground
- Water: Slightly boiling
- Add coffee to the basket, shake to level
- Place on top of cup or mug
- Add enough water to wet the grounds
- place the filter on top of the grounds (do not push, just gently drop it)
- Wait ~15 seconds
- Fill basket to just below the top, near the rubber handles
- Wait until all water has dripped through
- If desired, combine with some condensed milk or other milk. I like to use some frothed oat milk.
Grid Size
Below are the "clicks" I set my grinder to for various brewers.
- 3 clicks Fine - Prismo
- 7 clicks Medium fine - Moka Pot
- 10 clicks Medium - Kalita Wave, Aeropress
