spirit slush

feb 28, 2018

when i was walking to work today snow had recently fallen covering everything in a fresh layer of snow, excepting the roads and crosswalks which were quite slushy. i could look up and see rays of sunlight starting to layer over the city. the winter gusts rushing by felt refreshing rather than soul-crushing, which makes me either think that i am well adjusted to the cold or this city’s winter is softer than my last, or some intermediate mix of the two. being here lends novelty; a new world to explore but also work visas, SINs, apartment, and metro-cards to obtain. as i walk in worn-out boots, with a large gash in the sole denying any claim to waterproofness, this frozen world presents its own small joys. even as my face numbs, i feel enthusiasm well up in my spirit.
