Was advertised to me as a spiritual successor to Summon Night Swordscraft Story and I see where one could get that idea : it has side-view combat, you craft and disassemble your own weapons and it's a weird mix of a dating sim and an adventure RPG. Except that it is worse in each of those aspects, to say nothing of the weak story. If you thought you were going to do anything remotely "demon king", except talk back a bit, forget it, you're basically a gofer for everyone around. And you're not even the fighter most of the time, your character is the weapon. Damn, I really wanted to like this game... Enemy diversity ? I hope you like endless recollors of the same six enemies. Graphics ? Beautiful pixel art ? How about low poly and barely animated 3D with slighly big heads instead ? The combat lacks a good way to dodge or protect yourself. You can't cancel animations and even if you could, protecting yourself breaks your combo and the dodge has no invincibility frames. A major aspect of the game is racking up combos so it's bad. Also the final boss is a slog. Not hard but it takes forever. My biggest gripe with the game : only 3 types of weapon, axes, swords and spears, with enemies weak to each one and strong against another. Which means you ALWAYS have to use all of them, even though all characters but one specialize in one. And she happens to be the most annoying little critter... Like or hate your moveset with a weapon, you're going to have to use it all. The decoration system for your weapons is disappointing and except maybe in the endgame, you're hardly going to feel a difference between a carefully specialized weapon against the enemy you are fighting and just rushing them with a random one. Finally, the dating part. Yeah, it's pathetic. It's really easy to get a character to like you : feed them a lot of food they like. You can take a break from the story and missions to go on dates that are about as interesting as the characters themselves (not very). And the reward ? A single drawing with each character and some dialog. Compared to the GBA predescessors, that is barely better, but I think if they were gonna make dating such a big part of the game, they should have gone full degenerate and drawn every character a lot in a lot of situations, including embarrassing ones. And yes, even the robot guy. Overall, it's not the worse game, but it's really underwhelming. It's not a spiritual successor, it's a spiritual failuror. Even for free, it would still probably be a waste of your time and effort to finish.
