TTRPGs I Would Like to Return To...
This is the longer version of my reasoning for the three TTRPG systems I wish to return to, or try, in the near future. Relevent post can be found at https://forum.sickos.net/viewtopic.php?t=32248
- Genesys (FFG’s original page) - I’ve played this when it was just Star Wars RPG. I’ve picked up the CRB for Genesys and the Shadow of the Beanstalk supplement (based on the Android setting from FFG). I know not everyone’s a fan of custom dice, but I loved it. I think it’s also because you can build big dice pools and I like to roll dice and the math involved tends to be simple and straightforward.
- Ironsworn: Starforged - This was my first serious foray into solo TTRPG. I knew it could be done with other TTRPG systems but to have one built around solo (or co-op/GM-less) was really enticing to me while I was suffering from severe anxiety at the time. I’ve been wanting to come back to this, a lot. I wanted to post write-ups of my sessions and share them…but I found myself never really satisfied with how to record the mechanical aspects. I did find Lonelog, “a lightweight notation system that captures the rhythm of solo play without interrupting it.” Now it’s just making my brain settle on one collection of tools and I might actually be able to get back into it!
- Eclipse Phase (2e) - This was an impulse purchase while I was in a game store, back when it had more space for TTRPGs. I picked up the first edition before I was even into TTRPGs. My thinking at the time was probably, “Ooooh, scifi looking cover, scifi + tech theme? GIMME!” The biggest thing in the system that appealed to me is the ability to resleeve as you need, as long the resources are there for you to do so. Travelling throughout the solar system is often done by farcasting yourself into another body at your destination. If it weren’t for the horrors of the past and the present, I would like to live in this world. Sadly, I never felt like I could get a group together to play this with me, and even if I could, my self-doubt as a new-ish GM kills my motivation to even try
