23:51 < zeether> twitch chat on big streams is cancer
23:52 < zeether> aside from bigjon who has a strict family friendly rule there are times when people will just be utterly insufferable
23:53 < xkeeper> twitch chat in general is cancer
23:53 < zeether> I ended up leaving calebhart just now because of people going off about how “if they change tifa’s boobs in FFVII remake I’ll riot”
23:57 < zeether> themexicanrunner’s chat gets bad too which sucks because I like the NESMania thing
23:59 < xkeeper> twitch chats are “interesting” in the sense that it’s a constant balance between what everyone wants
00:00 < xkeeper> it’s hard to describe the exact dynamics, but you have a small sect that would prefer a quiet, more insightful chat (like here), or at least relevant commentary
00:00 < xkeeper> a larger (or at least far more vocal) sect that is harmless but noisy
00:00 < xkeeper> a similar one that is basically toxic shitposting and arguably even more vocal
00:00 < xkeeper> and the streamer themselves, who generally wants more “engagement”/viewers
00:01 < xkeeper> but by moderating the chat in any way, you’re liable to drive away people, meaning less viewers
00:01 < zeether> I want to stream again but I dunno what I’d do
00:01 < xkeeper> (while leaving the chat alone can drive off other people)
00:02 < zeether> random mame would be fun
00:02 < zeether> minus the slot machines/porn
00:02 < xkeeper> randomame is fun, though you have to have a good sense of when to mercy kill a game
00:03 < zeether> time tunnel obviously has a long mercy kill grace period
00:03 < xkeeper> well, mercy kill doesn’t just mean how you do at the game
00:04 < xkeeper> if you mean lordbbh’s stream, it lasted a while because it was both funny and kept changing
00:04 < zeether> yes
00:05 < xkeeper> mario maker streams got on my nerves after a while because it seemed like no streamer would avoid “bad levels”
00:06 < xkeeper> so you would get some stinker who came into a stream chat, said “hey play my level :))” and it turned out to be some all-but-impossible troll level
00:07 < xkeeper> it’s frustrating, too, because creating a generic troll level can take no time at all if you just want to be a jerk
00:07 < xkeeper> but if the steamer is determined to beat it (pride or w/e) it can get a loooooooooooooot of air time
00:08 < zeether> yeah bigjon does mario maker and I generally don’t watch during that
00:08 < xkeeper> whereas a genuinely good level that takes only a handful of attempts gets far less by comparison
00:08 < zeether> although he puts up a timer and when it runs out he stops and moves on
00:09 < xkeeper> it’s almost a sort of microcosm for the rest of the internet
00:09 < xkeeper> genuinely good things often get overlooked in favor of the latest big confrontational thing
