This world generates energy from simplicity. A devil is an expert in decluttering probabilities, which allows more miracles to occur. This is why most magic relies on geometric forms. Minor fortunes and small loves are made this way.
Aside from the straight line, which does not really exist, others make magic from real things. There are devils of the cowgrass and the concrete and the dirt. Up to one-eighth of the world is covered with it. The world does not mind if you take advantage. A devil may conjure great transfers of wealth this way, or bring about great changes in many minds.
The sea is a convoluted place; only difficult magic resides there. Such devils are rarely large enough to witness, but their effects may be glimpsed near bodies of water near dark.
Seeking new heights, a devil may instead try to find power in sunlight. One way of doing this is to go out on a nice day and feel it against one's skin. A devil may also open a window, or walk, or whistle. This is the realm of great summonings: "… you have to start to deal with the thing-in-itself, which is often the most painful thing to do."
The most radical of devils draw energy from simply continuing to exist. These devils, like you or me, tend to create the whole world.
