The False Rapture

10 April 2020

Regarding the Introveritas:

This sect believed that as distance made the heart grow fonder, so did it make it stronger. When born, each child was removed from its parents and confined, in the hopes that the study of only oneself would lead to greater awareness of one's affective faculties, and through that, deduce the existence of a solitarily blissful Heaven. Reason and speech were contagion and contaminant to this development. For that reason they were only conducted over letters or video call. Children were raised on a remote diet of food deliveries and stray pigeons they trapped from windows, while families were raised across large distances, spanning entire blocks of flats. In this way, they lived through the pandemic, but not for long: emerging after the end, they saw each other for the first time and, believing themselves to be in hell, hurled themselves from their newly-open windows in grief.
