holy shitballs man. now this is football. this is what you watch the game for.
the chicago bears come to levi's stadium to play ball against the 49ers. both teams came into this game with a record of 11–4, and this is an important game for everyone in the NFC: both the niners and the bears needed this game for a path toward the #1 NFC seed, giving them a first-round bye in the playoffs.
as a bears fan i was excited but scared: the niners are a really really really good team and i think the pre-game predictions favouring them were fair. i did however get ready for an explosive game from both sides, and boy did they deliver.
fifteen seconds in bears get a kick return interception touchdown, and it doesn't stop there: san francisco quickly returns the favour, giving us a tie of 7–7, then 14–14, then 21–21, all before the end of the second quarter. 28–28 soon follows, as does 35–35 (???) and the game does not stop being exciting in the last three minutes of regulation as the niners score ANOTHER touchdown and extra point to cover up for the bears' recent field goal.
the bears have three minutes to get a TD, they get to 4th and goal with six seconds to spare, and Williams manœuvres the ball for ten long seconds past zero, throwing it just a couple inches short from a touchdown.
38–42 is the final score, and the niners are potentially looking at a division win, and maybe to play at home all the way to the Super Bowl.
i'm not even mad about this outcome… this is the most electric television i've ever seen in my life. what a show. the bears will do fantastic in the playoffs with or without this win. :D
