I sometimes wish I could just switch off caring about the things I care about. Like the tech industry’s encroachment on people’s freedoms and the idea of ownership itself.
So many people love tech gadgets that spy on them, proprietary software that intentionally harasses them and eventually holds their data for ransom, buying a new phone every 2 years, re-purchasing stuff they already own just to use it on a different device, etc., etc.
They’re inured to it. They’ve never known a life without it. It’s an annoyance, but a reasonable or unimportant one.
Why can’t I be like that?
