Leafy ("Leafy Leafy Leafy Leafy Leafy")
Shot taken November 2, 2011, on iPod touch 4 - Wallpapered November 10, 2011
This was taken on a drive to my community college in November 2011. I'd just finished a trio of Halloween wallpapers and was excited to really get out and start making more, and this one was also snapped from a car window.
This was also pretty early on, before I really nailed down my workflow on these... pixels are still mostly 4x4 on this one. I ended up using 2x2 pixels for 1680x1050 and 1024x600. In retrospect, I should've just switched over to 2x2 pixels for everything the moment I ran into this, but I didn't really think too much of the inconsistency immediately unfortunately. It eventually led to me shifting all my pieces over to avoid the inconsistency, and I'd grown to enjoy the greater detail allowed by the change.
It'd be a few more shots before I nailed down my style, but this one is probably my favorite of the earliest ones. This is where I started making desktop backgrounds more to share with others than simply just to use myself, covering a wider range of resolutions.
The above text was written on May 10, 2021, with the design of this gallery. The following text was my original commentary on the DeviantArt submission, as well as in a forum post, before I started including it in text files:
So another one - this time with an Atari 800-inspired palette.
The 1680x1050 wallpaper is definitely a higher reduced resolution - this was unavoidable, 1050 is a... very awkward vertical resolution. 1024x600 is, as well, though that's just because the usual reduction just shrinks the image far too much for this resolution.
If the iPod touch could take higher resolution photos (960x720 while video can be 1280x720? what) I'd probably cater to 2560x1440 displays as well.
