The fire's have got me thinking alot about my window. On the 6th floor, in an old building, disaster is something one either prepares for, or perishes. No fire escapes, the contigency plan posted in the common area is to sit in your unit. And wait.

What the hell.

I was making my way south to California for some farmwork when a firestorm picked up in Portland and my sister announced she was running a fever. So there I was, with two close friends, squatting in a pretty decent house and scrambling to find candles before the rolling blackouts hit. When they did, my first thought was to rob the Plaid Pantry down the street. Luckily, the power outage only lasted briefly, but the smoke won't leave. Neither will COVID. What would a computer programmer do in a disaster? What would an artist do?

Ropes cheap right now. If I need to, I'll be able to use it to repel down the side of my building. People in my social circle have stopped calling me paranoid.
