On the 12th I went hiking with a friend of mine. We departed from Milan at
02:08PM (at least, I did, he was late so he left with the 3PM train) to Canzo
a small town by the Como Lake. From there we proceded to ascend the mountains
of Canzo Valbrona (Corni di Canzo Valbrona). The hike was as expected up until
we got to Terz'Alpe, the halfway point to the mountain peak. From there we had a
few choices to reach the top. We opted for the easier route, which was still not
as easy as I thought it would be, mainly because instead of brining one big bag
I brought two smaller ones. Fortunately there were many spots where we could
stop by and refill our water bottles, this made the climb bearable despite being
undergeared.
But once we reached the top of the mountain we were greeted by a beautiful overview of Lake Como and the surrounding area. Unfortunately it also started to rain, not enough for me to be soaking wet, but enough to make stepping on rocks a lot more dangerous. The mountain cabin near the area we stayed at was on the other side of the mountain, so after reaching the peak we had to descend a bit, during that segment of the hike I fell a few times, nothing broken tho.
Once we arrived at the cabin we asked where we could set up our tent. We decided
to camp out instead of staying at a cabin, as it is cheaper and gives a feeling
of adventure. Once we set up the tent we decided to have a hot meal at the cabin
despite having packed dinner, I wanted a hot meal, and the smell coming the
kitchen was too mouth watering. We had salamella with polenta and a bottle of
water, it ended up costing 18€.
We then played a couple of rounds of Briscola before heading out to watch the
stars. We went on this hike to watch the eclipse, we didn't have any special
glasses tho and it started raining during its peak, and to watch the shower of
shooting stars. It was a bit early and we couldn't see any so we decided to head
back to the cabin and have some drinks. First a few fake spritz, then 2 shots of
limoncello just before leaving. Not feeling staisfied we went back tho and asked
for a bottle of wine. We stayed at the cabin chatting with the staff while
having our wine. Once we were done with our wine and said our goodbyes to the
staff we went to our tent to watch the shooting stars. We saw a few before going
to sleep.
