kzimmermann's downtime notice
Starting next week, I'll power down my trusty Raspberry Pi server and all of my self-hosted services will be taken offline (at least from a public perspective).
However, unlike previous times, there's no expected date of service restoration because I'll be moving and simply cannot predict when I'll get another internet contract down (and even less when can I port forward the machine, and so on). It could be a week, a month, maybe more.
This means that:
- This website (https://kzimmermann.0x.no) will no longer be available. A Tilde.town mirror will remain online and publishing, save for unrelated downtime on that server.
- Same goes for my news and articles - if you had been following me in your feed reader, make sure you also grab the ones from my Tilde.town mirror here: Article Feed and News Feed.
- My XMPP server and address (
kzimmermann _at_ kchat.port0.org
) will go offline. I don't have another XMPP address currently, but you can DM me in the Fediverse in the meantime. - Git repositories will be offline, or local LAN only. But this is not really an issue as I don't host any public repositories here.
Do I plan on returning soon? Absolutely. Data sovereignity is a huge thing for me, and if I don't own the hardware, I'm not owning the data either. Believe me, I want to restore these services as soon as I can, and perhaps even host something else?
In the meantime, carry on and enjoy. Maybe it'll be a good opportunity for me to disconnect from computers a little as well. I'll post updates in the aforementioned channels in the meantime.
See you on the other side!
