Some Insights from the Nagoya Open Source Conference

I'm glad to report that I went to my first ever FOSS / Hacking Conference!

The Open Source Conference Japan held its monthly event in Nagoya today, luckily enough fifteen minutes away from my place. I posted some live tooting of the event, but with so many talks going on at the same time, couldn't report on most of them.

What can I say? Well, I really enjoyed talking to the BSD guys there. It was a great reminder that I need to get back into gear and get to hacking with NetBSD (which apparently has bigger following in Japan than the other two BSDs) again. And to know that I got to meet the guy responsible for inserting the OpenBSD logo into the booting process was quite mind blowing!

Watching the talk by one of the AlmaLinux maintainers in Japan was quite mind opening. As someone who doesn't use Red Hat-based distros very often, it was nice to learn the history behind the distro and how its governance is structured. It was enough to make me give it a try soon!

I guess that, even though it was a relatively small conference, it was a good opportunity to see how these events are. I'm now even more excited to be part of the Free Software community - and ready to visit others like this in the future!
